Changes and Additions

This section provides an overview of the differences between Red Hat 6.0 and the SGI

Linux Environment 1.1:

• During installation,SGI Linux automatically selects the linear and compact options

to LILO. It is recommended that these options be preserved.

• During installation, at the X Conﬁgurator screen, you will now ﬁnd many SGI

monitors listed.

• All kernel RPMs have been replaced with 2.2.10 based kernels with SGI

modiﬁcations.

• The following packages were modiﬁed by SGI:

– Xconﬁgurator 4.2.3 (adds support for SGI monitors)

– initscripts 4.16. (adds SGI logos)

– lilo 0.21. (ﬁxes bug with large memory systems)

– mount 2.9o. (adds support for NFS V3)

– ncurses 4.2. (adds support for IRIX winterm)

– ncurses-devel 4.2. (adds support for IRIX winterm)

• The following packages were added by SGI:

– kernprof 1.0 (kernel proﬁling tool to identify performance bottlenecks)

– ktrace 1.0 (kernel trace tool)

– lcrash 1.0 (post-mortem crash ﬁle analysis)

– libdba.so 1.0 (APIs to enhance database performance)
